Manor Estate Update
At last we managed to get the Housing Department and others down to the manor Estate today.
I went out knocking on doors at Pope House, and Trappes House.
Staff from the Housing Department, the local Police, The local Wardens were all present.
We managed to help loads of people with housing problems.

I seems like just last week they came to a council assembly, and won praise for their good work.

Newcastle Labour MP condemns ‘Save our Nursery campaigners’
Labour heavyweight Sharon Hodgson MP joins the debate about Labour closing our nurseries:
condemns local campaigners,
defends her party colleagues,
blames someone else for the decision to close our nurseries.

Sharon Hodgson MP: “frankly shameful”
In an email to ‘Save our Nursery’ parent campaigners here in Southwark the Newcastle MP wrote:
“That local Liberal Democrats are whipping up such a large level of fear about these plans among local parents….. is frankly shameful.
However, due to the significant local concern there clearly is, I understand that Southwark have now put the decision on hold……. I think this is the right course of action, and I am sure that parents will take the opportunity to make their views heard, and that the Council will listen to them.
There is no doubt that Labour in Southwark are having to take difficult decisions about the services they provide… I am confident that Cllr McDonald and her colleagues are making fair choices….
Yours sincerely,
Sharon Hodgson MP
Shadow Children and Families Minister
Ms Hodgson doesn’t condemn the decision to close the nurseries, but wants the decision to be put ‘on hold’.
She admits that choosing to close the nurseries is a local decision made by the Labour councillors in Southwark, but describes the choices as ‘fair’
It seems someone told her that it was just a few Liberal Democrat Councillors who oppose the closures -
Not the parents, and the 2,000 people who have signed the petition!
We will be across Southwark collecting signatures again this weekend
- please come and join us.
