The South Bermondsey Conspiracy theory

by Graham Neale on 22 May, 2011

Regular visitors to this blog will have seen the photo of Southwark New’s photographer taking a picture
of local resident Pat Wentworth handing me a petition outside the Lib Dem offices in The Blue taken on 19th April.

I’m not sure why Southwark News didn’t publish it for two weeks.
I thought that maybe Pat & I are simply not good looking enough for today’s media (no offense Mr W).
Perhaps the 6th May was a ‘slow news week’, and they dug out an old photo – who knows?
Anyway, last week they published this letter from local resident Ken Stannard:

Leaving aside that Southwark News appear to have printed the wrong photo:

Ken asks in the letter, if the photo of Pat & I was taken after my pleasant afternoon drinking tea with Ken,
and watching him collect signatures in South Bermondsey,
during which I asked him if would like to pose for a photo to publicise his petition.
(Southwark News could simply have phoned him, and told him when their photographer took the photo.)
Now that they have printed Ken’s letter questioning whether I fabricated a story to gain press attention:
I have written a letter for Southwark News, explaining there was a 16 day time lapse in the publication,
I wonder if they will print it, or explain the delay between them taking the photo and publishing it.
I can understand Ken’s suspicion of politicians, but no mate, no conspiracy….
just a local paper not printing a photograph for two weeks.
The X files it aint!
