Trixi mirrors at last, but why are they all in the south of the borough?

by Graham Neale on 8 October, 2012

Following my speech at a Southwark Council meeting in January (Click here),
When I requested that Trixi mirrors be installed in the borough;
I’m pleased to see that Southwark council has finally agreed to install the life saving mirrors.

When I referred to them, I wondered if any of my colleagues had even heard of them!
So I’m please that Southwark Council has started to install them, but I have some concerns.

Most of the deadly accidents involving lorries turning left,
have occurred in the north of the borough.

None of the first batch are going to be installed around the massive regeneration schemes in the north,
with the construction traffic, which is often so dangerous for cyclists.

Looking at the map.
You can see that none have been installed in Bermondsey & Old Southwark,
where Simon Hughes is the MP, and most of the accidents have happened.
there are some already, but these are on TfL roads.
